Welsh women share skills, smiles, songs and… socks!

When the Greek team’s luggage didn’t arrive off the baggage belt at the airport in Oslo, the Welsh women’s team didn’t hesitate to come to the rescue. Their kind gesture earned them the FIFPFRO Fair Play Award.
The Welsh ladies offered the Greek team their reserve kit to play in. In the end, only the spare socks were needed, but it was enough for the teams to bond over. Even after the Greek luggage arrived, the teams stayed in touch, cheering, chatting and supporting each other, in true Homeless World Cup spirit.
Team Wales were presented with t-shirts and medals by Raymond Beaard of FIFPRO, the global trade union for professional footballers who have been proud supporters of the Homeless World Cup since 2015.
“I want to congratulate you all, for playing well and taking care of your opponents”, Beaard said. “This tournament is about playing football, but it is about more than that.”
The same goes for the trophy.
“Winning the FIFPRO Fair Play Award is like winning the Homeless World Cup”, says Welsh women coach Jo Price. “This is all about inspiring people to be a better version of themselves. It is about resilient women, about great team spirit and about being empowered.”
