Andy’s comeback challenge to run 1200 miles and raise money for the Homeless World Cup Foundation

On Wednesday June 11th, Andy Suiter will start his incredible 1200-mile run from Land’s End in Cornwall to John o’Groats in Scotland to raise money for the Homeless World Cup Foundation.

Andy, who is from California, will use national trails as he makes his way from south to north across the UK, attempting to complete an ultramarathon (between 30-40 miles) every day on his self-supported adventure, carrying just a light backpack with essential gear for the journey.

Speaking to the Homeless World Cup Foundation ahead of his monumental challenge, Andy described his own comeback journey in life and how this inspired him to raise money for the Homeless World Cup Foundation and raise awareness of the annual global tournament:

“Sport is a powerful vehicle and, in my eyes, nothing in the sporting world is as powerful as the Homeless World Cup, a tournament that is much more than a game.” Andy, said.

“I’m running to not only raise money for the Homeless World Cup Foundation but also to raise awareness of the work they do year in year out across the globe. The Homeless World Cup is a movement that creates the opportunity for comebacks and every single player who has taken part in the tournament is quite rightly celebrated on the highest stage for their own personal comeback in life.”

Running the length of Britain is a huge mental and physical challenge, Andy will be camping wherever possible on his journey across the UK and will be inspired by loved ones afar and anyone who wants to join in along the way.

Andy continued: “My own comeback story began at the age of 25, when my lifelong dream of playing professional baseball came to an end after three years in the minor leagues.

“What followed were years of searching for meaning and direction and I eventually found my way back to feeling joy in life, but i couldn’t have done it without the resources provided by loving family and friends. I’m incredibly grateful for all that I was given to help me rebuild, and now I’m committed to paying it forward by taking on challenges like this, to help those who need it the most.”
