Mel Young Announces 2013 Homeless World Cup in Poznan


Today, president and co-founder of the Homeless World Cup, Mel Young attended a press conference at Poznan City Hall to annouce the 2013 tournament taking place at Lake Malta, Poznan.

Mel was welcomed by city officials, journalists and Ryszard Grobelny, the Mayor of Poznan. Local media attended and among them were WTK, TVN 24, Radio Merkury, Radio Eska.

After a short welcome speech, the Mayor handed over to Mel Young and Maciej Gudra of the Polish Street Soccer Association.

‘‘There are millions of homeless people all over the world, but one homeless person is one too many,’’ said Young.

He thanked the Mayor for city’s participation in organising the event and Gudra thanked the tournament sponsors as well as the Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Sport in particular.

After the speeches, journalists interviewed Mel on the philosophy of the Homeless World Cup, the history of the competition and the impact it will have on the players who are involved in Poznan this year.

The Poznan 2013 Homeless World Cup takes place at Lake Malta, Poznan from 11-18 August 2013.
