Cantona Training Clinic for 500 Players

International football legend, Eric Cantona, will attend the Copenhagen 2007 Homeless World Cup, the international football tournament changing lives, for a special training clinic.

On Tuesday 31 July 2007, 500 players from 48 nations will benefit from Cantona’s top club and international experience as they vie to become Homeless World Cup Champions.

Cantona, a true artisan of the beautiful game, is inspired by the Homeless World Cup’s mission to use football as a trigger to encourage people who are currently homeless to change their own lives for the better. He said:“Football unites; it inspires and it energises individuals communities and the world.  Football and the Homeless World Cup has the power to fire up a person to excel as a human being, to change their lives for the better.  It is fantastic that football brings this opportunity to their lives.”

Cantona was a passionate and inspired player for France and Manchester United amongst other clubs. He was worshipped by fans for his great flair. One knew that when Cantona got the ball something great would happen.  He became well known for free kicks and penalties. During the clinic Cantona will allow Homeless World Cup players expert insight into penalty kicks under the potential pressure of a World Cup final.

The Homeless World Cup will bring true grit, spirit and glory of the beautiful game to the City Hall Square, Copenhagen from 29 July – 4August 2007. It is here that players, who are currently homeless, takea once in a lifetime opportunity to represent their country and changet heir lives. 77% of the players change for the better coming off drugs and alcohol, moving into jobs, homes, training, and education, becoming football coaches or players.  An estimated 25,000 players were involved in pre-tournament training and trials around the world for the Copenhagen 2007 Homeless World Cup.
