A Wedding To Remember
Posted on 09/09/2009
The day 09-09-09 only happens once in a lifetime, and so does a special wedding. In an unlikely story, Paul and Nina a Pilipino couple who are involved with the Philippine team in the Homeless World Cup decided to tie the knot on this special day.
It all started 13 years ago when Nina and Paul met at the student council at University. Both were interested in social action and were involved in a project together for street children called Blue Christmas which tried to shock students into action. From then on, the couples romance blossomed until a year ago when Paul proposed. The number 9 was a special number for them so it was only logical they should get married in the Philippines on 09-09-09.
Only fate had a different idea, as they were invited to come with the Philippine team to the Homeless World Cup. Paul as a motivational drummer to support the team, and Nina as journalist. So instead of compromising on their agreed wedding day, they shifted location to the Pilipino consulate in Milan. Despite not having their family here in Milan to witness and celebrate, they have their other family - the Philippine team and community here in Milan. A wedding is an expression of who you are, and they could not think of a better way to represent what they stand for.
Despite Milan being the fashion capital of the world, the couple organised their dress from back home, with rather short notice and particular importance to light weight and easy to carry. They are celebrating with the team and local Pilipino community, and will have another celebration with family and friends back home on their shared birthday - January 23.
