"The Homeless World Cup is about a major life experience. You create friendships and set the right attitude to succeed."

Michelle was born in 1990 in the famous favela portrayed in the film ‘The City of God.’ All her life, Michelle has lived for football - on a courageous journey out of poverty and exclusion through sport.

Michelle was selected to represent Brazil at the Homeless World Cup in Copenhagen in 2007, when she won the Best Female Player award and was noticed by Eric Cantona as an outstanding player, during one of his training sessions - a speedy and powerful striker determined to do her best on the pitch and off.

So it was no surprise that after she returned to Brazil she was swiftly selected for the Brazil women's under 20s national team and later went on to play in the 2010 South America Cup.

Michelle says: "The Homeless World Cup is a major life experience. You create friendships and set the right attitude to succeed in your life and in football."
