Street Soccer Event in Chile welcomes 6,000
Team Chile stepped-up their preparations for the Rio 2010 Homeless World Cup last weekend with a star-studded football event drawing over 6,000 people.
‘Street Soccer Chile’, organisers of the national Homeless World Cup Team Chile, played host to over 6,000 people at a day of exhibition matches and other events at the Arena Santiago on Sunday, 29th August 2010.
The event saw teams representing ‘Street Soccer Chile’, including the side selected for Rio, facing some celebrity opponents with ex-Chile international players Ivan Zamorano, Héctor Tapia, Nelson Tapia, Sebastián Rozental and Hugo Rubio providing the opposition .
The event focused on preparing Team Chile for the Rio 2010 Homeless World Cup, taking place at Capacabana Beach from the 19th-26th September 2010, and raising awareness of the ‘Street Soccer Chile’ project, which helps vulnerable and homeless people across Chile through football.
Team Chile will look to improve on an impressive ninth place finish at the Milan 2009 Homeless World Cup.
