Prize win gives Team Indonesia hope for Homeless World Cup debut
The Rumah Cemara charity, the organisers of the Indonesia Homeless World Cup team, have been announced as the global grand prize winners of a Nike/Ashoka Changemakers competition.
Based in the West Java province, Rumah Cemara uses football as a universal language to overcome local stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV/AIDS, and engage both HIV-positive and HIV-negative players.
They were awarded first place in the category of 'Changing Lives Through Football' and will recieve up to $30,000 worth of prizes beating competition from 293 initiatives in 60 countries.
Rumah Cemara intend to use the funding to develop their regional structure and to help Team Indonesia in reaching the Paris 2011 Homeless World Cup, their first appearance at the tournament.
Nike and the Ashoka's Changemakers partnered to launch the global initiative, designed to mobilize millions of people inspired by sport and social change.
