Our National Partner in Denmark, OMBOLD, has held this season's first tournament and for the first time ever they have also run a women’s competition.
14 teams attended the Event, 12 at the men competition and two at the women's first tournament. Everybody enjoyed a great football day and hopefully the word will spread so more people –especially women, will get involved.
Lene Knudtzen, Development Consultant at Ombold, says:
"I guess all beginning is difficult, but it was such a great day and I am very proud of the girls who turned up. We are trying to raise money to run a full women’s programme.
The first sessions are being held in Copenhagen however they are looking to start drop in football sessions all over Denmark.
"By May our ambition is to have 10 centres across the country in cooperation with local shelters, we have funds to train employees at the shelters as coaches. It’s going to be such a good project."
The Danish National Team is selected and trained by Ombold, which was established at the beginning of 2003. Since then, over 5,000 people have participated in Ombold’s street soccer activities which include tournaments, championships, training sessions, scientific cooperation and support of members.
