In association with the Katalyst Consultancy the GYPA helps youths in Uganda affected by conflict, AIDS and poverty.
The selection process for the Uganda national team concentrated on football skill and leadership qualities. The players, as role models, hope to use their participation in the Homeless World Cup as a way of building support for other sports development projects in Uganda.
One such project is Girls Kick It, which uses football to equip young women to be community leaders of the future. With a young and enthusiastic team Uganda provide a stern test for some of the more established nations.The team is joined by Peace Ambassadors to spread friendship and understanding amongst all the players.
Their strong female leadership that won the respect of everyone in Cape Town, particularly the media who queued up to interview the female captain, Sarah.
