Red Ball Drop Day 1, Kampala: A Message of Unity and Friendship

There are times in life when you have those “WOW” moments and you wonder why you’ve been so fortunate to be there. Today, in entirety, was one of those WOW moments.

We were up early, unpacking, organizing and planning for Red Ball Drop Uganda Day # 1. Joseph (GYPA Country Director) and Ritah (GYPA Staff) coordinated and planned out a terrific schedule for the day, and it all started in nearby Namuwongo.

15 bikes for the Uganda Team

GYPA, the organisers of the Uganda Homeless World Cup squad, will be the recipient of 15 bikes for it's youth programs and Homeless World Cup Team. GYPA will support 88Bikes effort to purchase and bring the remaining bikes to Northern Uganda to the Patongo School. Jeremy Goldman reports:

2006 Homeless World Cup - Players Story

On Tuesday afternoon at the Invisible Children conference center, participants were introduced to a local celebrity. Lamex traveled to Cape Town, South Africa last year to play on GYPA-supported football team, representing Uganda in the Homeless World Cup.

Meet Olive

Born on August 22, 1979, Olive Mbekaka was raised in Katanga, Uganda's second largest slum, an area largely populated with single mothers and sex workers. Olive did not have a good childhood and her youth life has been characterised by hardship. She is an orphan and when life seemed too difficult Olive took refugee on the street. While on the street her brother introduced her to many of his friends who played football.
