At the Cape Town 2006 Homeless World Cup Team South Africa showed a clear, radical transformation inspired by the whirl wind of attention they received as the host nation. Now the Western Cape Street Soccer League is established and involves 100 volunteers and activities in various communities of Cape Town and the Western Cape focusing on education, social support, and HIV awareness for street kids. This has grown to involves over 700 players in 55 teams. 50% of the players are currently living on the street, a number of them are in drug rehabilitation programmes and at least 30% are in institutions for street people. So their radical transformation and tremendous growth continues and potential triumph in Melbourne beckons? World Ranking: Copenhagen 2007 - 16th; Cape Town 2006 - 27th; Edinburgh 2005 - 18th; Gothenburg 2004 - 8th; Graz 2003 - 7th

Simon Mobey catches up with its chairman David Abrahams.
