Scotland’s victorious football Homeless World Cup captain is looking to emulate tennis star Andy Murray – by winning a Spirit of Scotland Award. Vote for him to ensure that he wins.
Paul Smith has been nominated for the awards that mark achievements of individuals who inspired the nation through contributions to Scottish culture – from business and sport to the arts and food.
Voted for by the public and screened by STV on St Andrews Day, November 30, the Spirit of Scotland Awards are among the countries most sought after accolades.
Smith, who won player of the tournament during the Homeless World Cup in Copenhagen, Denmark will be looking to follow Andy Murray with an award in sport category. Other Spirit winners include Gordon Ramsay, Walter Smith, Ian Rankin, Ewan McGregor and Sharleen Spiteri.
“It’s brilliant because I’m in with all the best sportsmen in Scotland” said the 25 year old Dunoon resident Smith. “My life has totally changed since I came back. I’m at college now, studying social sciences. Everything’s just been positive!”
Scotland coach David Duke added: “It’s a fantastic achievement for him, the hard work he put in before the tournament and the way he conducted himself while he was over in Copenhagen was an inspiration to the other lads.
“I hope fans who have been following the Homeless World Cup will vote for Paul.”
