Eckstra Special Salute
Posted by Scotland - 17/10/2007
It was a tale of two Ecks as First Minister Alex Salmond teamed up with Scotland manager, Alex McLeish to congratulate the nation’s homeless football team in their summer Homeless World Cup win.
McLeish, who masterminded his team’s historic win over France last month, saluted the Big Issue Scotland players’ courage and skill.
After fending off a few jibes from the First Minister, McLeith said he “deferred” to a team who has pointed the way to world cup glory.
He said the Homeless World Cup team would continue to be an inspiration for the senior side in their fight to qualify for the Euro 2008 championships.
The First Minister also saluted the Homeless World Cup heroes and thanks them from presenting him with his very own signed jersey.
The team are now preparing to open a perminant exhibition in there honour as part of the Scottish Football Museum at Hampdon Park. The launch will also see them recieving International Caps from the SFA.
