POLAND IN PROFILE

Posted by Poland - 05.05.2011

A Poland team has competed at every edition of the Homeless World Cup, twice finishing as runners-up. They currently occupy 4th place in the overall Homeless World Cup rankings.

The Poland Homeless World Cup team is organised by the ‘Polish Homeless Street Soccer Association’. The organisation is based in the central city of Poznan and works to reintegrate homeless and socially excluded people into society through sport, recreation and participation in the annual Homeless World Cup tournament.

Team Poland is selected through an annual national selection competition called the ‘Polish Street Soccer Championship’. Participants from around Poland compete regionally and then at the national final prior to the Homeless World Cup.

In recent years Poland has been represented by winning sides from cities including Poznan, Bydgoszcz, and Rożnowice.

This year eight players selected from the ‘Polish Street Soccer Championship Finals’, to be held in Wrocław from 2-3 July 2011, will represent Poland at the Paris 2011 Homeless World Cup.

Poland will host the 2013 Homeless World Cup, to be held in the city of Poznan.
