Norway Qualifies

Teams battle it out in Norway at the 2008 national qualifications.

The Norwegian National Championship in street soccer took place in the city of Stavanger on June 7-8. This was the second National Championship, and last year's winners, Stavanger, were forced to pass the cup on to Kristiansand who beat the reigning champions on a penalty knockout after an extremely tight final.

Bronze medals were presented to the team from the artic city of Tromsø for the second time in a row.

The local Salvation Army with a wonderful staff of volunteers made this an unforgettable weekend for 80 players and coaches – including a delicious banquet dinner and country – rock concert.

We would also like to give a special credit to two of the players from last years national team who, while completing the last phase of their rehabilitation program, have also played a major role in the organizing committee for the tournament.

The concept of street soccer is gradually growing in Norway, and this year the number of teams increased from 5 to 8 – giving the national coach around 50 players to choose from. The squad for the national team going to the Melbourne 2008 homeless world cup was announced at the beginning of July, and is represented by players from the cities of Tromsø, Trondheim, Stavanger and Kristiansand.
