Search and Groom focuses on empowering the disadvantaged youth of Nigeria, using football.

Organisation - Search and Groom

Search and Groom (S&G) is a non-governmental and non-partisan organisation that started in 2003 and seeks to provide programmes offering training, rehabilitation, employment, sports and recreation opportunities for Nigerians who are homeless, unemployed or suffering from addiction, without bias, using the power of sport.

They are also the official “Football for Hope” implementing partner in Nigeria; the main element of the strategic alliance led by FIFA and Street Football World.

They operate in: Lagos: Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ipaja/Baruwa, Agege, Ajegunle, Oyo: Ibada

Number of participants (on average): 2500

Every year, they organise the Street Soccer League Cup and select the team that will represent Nigeria at the Homeless World Cup annual tournament. Through this tournament, they promote community service and raise awareness on HIV/AIDS, Civic Education and anti-corruption campaigns.

Other programmes include FEMPOWER, which aims at empowering women through sport. Led by two volunteers, Helen Schonbrodt and Lenka Schropferov (Germany), they put the emphasis on fair-play, social interaction, respect and discipline and organise “talkshops” before each football training sessions with the girls on nutrition health, hygiene, politics or gender equality. The programme currently counts 35 young women between the age of 14 and 25.
