Dehkontee J. Sayon, was the best female player at the Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup. She recently reported back about football and development in her nation. This is what she shared:

After years of conflict Liberia finally held free and fair elections in 2005. Despite the peace, however, there is a huge problem of poverty and social exclusion which the Liberian team aims to raise awareness of and contribute to improving the country. This year their women's team will play in the first ever Homeless World Cup Women's competition. World Ranking: Copenhagen 2007 - 3rd; Cape Town 2006 - 5th

Sports to Develop the Under Privileged (SDU) aims to use sport, especially football, to combat these problems. By organising a Liberian side for the Homeless World Cup the SDU hopes to take a tremendous step forward in realising its aims.
