All the players with Kazakhstan have had experience of homelessness, many because laws in Kazakhstan prevent people from moving from their place of birth.
To help the homeless and underpriviliged Baspana has battled against many obstacles to create sports grounds and promote sport as a vehicle for social change among the homeless of Kazakhstan.
Today Baspana runs a team for teenagers and a team for adults. Although the players may lack the skills of professional players they are eager to work hard and all have been hugely motivated by the idea of travelling to the Homeless World Cup. As an unknown quantity in Cape Town the Kazakhstan team surprised the more established nations with their strong defending and powered their way to the final. Will Copenhagen 2007 be ready for them this time around?
