TWO-TIME WINNERS BEGIN PREPARATIONS FOR PARIS

Posted by Italy - 28.07.2011

Italy, the only nation to have won the Homeless World Cup twice, have started their build-up to the Paris 2011 tournament.

The first stage of the 2011 Homeless Italian Cup took place last month as players from across Italy competed for a place in the Azzuri squad for the Paris 2011 Homeless World Cup.

The third annual edition of the competition began in the town of Morbegno on 26th June 2011 and will continue with nationwide events ahead of the Paris tournament in August.

The Italy team is organised by and selected through the Homeless Italian Cup. The organisation, a legacy of the Milan 2009 Homeless World Cup, fights against social exclusion by working with homeless, unemployed and vulnerable people to change their lives through participation in sport.

Currently operating in Milan and Turin the organisation has a five year goal to expand the Italian Homeless Cup across Italy, aiming to operate in 14-16 cities by 2015.
