STRAYDOG WON THE FINNISH CHAMPIONSHIP SECOND TIME IN A ROW
Posted by Finland - 19/05/2008
Finnish Streetsoccer Championship tournament was played on 17th May in Rauma in quite chilly conditions. Ten teams from eight different districts were participating in this 2nd Championship tournament and challenging the 2007 Champions StrayDogs from Helsinki.
Tournament began with two preliminary groups which were played on two different pitches. 2007 Champions StrayDogs were in serious trouble during preliminary group matches and managed to get over to semifinals only by goals. Preliminary groups were won by Kivitasku (from Espoo) and by FC Askel (fr. Espoo too).
After semifinals it was clear that this year’s Finnish Streetsoccer Championship final was going to be a fight between two best teams from preliminary group A; Kivitasku and StrayDog. Kivitasku hadn’t lost any of their matches before the final and StrayDog had been struggling during the day. The final was an even match. StrayDog gave definitely their best of the day and took early lead 2-1. Kivitasku had their opportunity to an equalizer by a penalty shoot but missed that. Finally StrayDog took over the 2nd Finnish Streetsoccer Championship by numbers 3-1.
As a patron of this year’s Championship tournament in Finland did act mr. Erik Hamalainen. Erik Hamalainen is a big hockey legend in Finland. As a commentator during this tournament was mr. Jussi Henriksson, a well-known sports reporter from TV-channel Nelonen.

Congratulations!! That is brilliant that you have so many districts and teams now involved and it sounds like everyone had a great time. See you in Melbourne!
