Czech Republic prepare for first ever national selection

Posted by Czech Republic - 23/05/2007

The first ever Czech Republic national selection for the Copenhagen 2007 Homeless World Cup will take place on June 1. Six teams have registered, mainly drug users currently in community treatment, young Romanies from migrating families and clients of the Salvation Army.

After a successful participation of the Czech team in Cape Town Cup last year SANANIM NGO has reacted to an increased interest and decided to organize a national qualification involving many more players. The winner will represent the Czech Republic in Copenhagen, Denmark.

As there are currently no street soccer courts in the Czech Republic, the tournament will be played according to the rules of the “small football”. (4+1)

The National selection takes place under the auspices of Prague 1 mayor Petr Hejma.

FC SANANIM, brought to fame in Cape Town winning the hearts of many fans, is working hard to be ready for the top event of the year. It has been strengthened by several new stars that are completing their process of rehabilitation and will fight with all their physical and mental strength to win and represent the country in Denmark.

"It was an experience I will never forget,” says Dan, who was instrumental in our win over Brazil at the last tournament. "It helped me to get my life under control in spite of moving from one place to another all the time.”

More information will be brought to you on June 1, 2007
