The Victoria Street Soccer team held a fundraising football tournament on Saturday to send one of their players, Richard Clemens, to the Paris 2011 Homeless World Cup.
The Victoria team are an affiliate of Street Soccer Canada who work with homeless and socially disadvantaged people across the country through a network of regional organisations.
Football enthusiast Clemens said: "Soccer is a part of my life I have really missed, and this is giving me an opportunity to come back and get in shape and kick the ball around and meet people.
“Street Soccer really stresses the importance of community and brings people together."
Canada will feature in both the Homeless World Cup and Women’s Homeless World Cup in Paris.
