Learning by teaching starts a street soccer movement

In Cameroon the organisers were wondering how to get the players to capture the knowledge of the rules and knowledge of the street soccer format.

Their creative solution was to encourage each player to organise and train two teams of their own. The experiment was a real success and street soccer is now quickly gaining popularity in Cameroon.

The team, however, have set their sights on glory after a very successful start in Cape Town 2006 where they finished 6th. "Why not win the cup?" was their captain's low key answer to a question about his expectations in the coming Copenhagen 2007 tournament.

Will Cameroon have it in them to take the top spot this year?

Twelve teams, each captained by players of ASAFE Camaroes or members of the reserve bench, started an eight day tounament that will culminate in the selection of the Cameroon team for Copenhagen 2007. Watched by about three hundred spectators in a pitch around the Douala international airport the first playing day did not see spectators whacking in ecstasy as most of the matches were decided on penalties shoot outs. Some of the players attribute this goal dry phenomenon to the fact that a new rule stipulating that at least a player should remain in an oponents camp, made most of them to concentrate on not violating this rule This resulted in killing the fire in the game that would have rendered more goals. "Now that our coach has told us how to avoid the booby trap in this rule we will be ready for the game next time (Wednesday March 21)" said Nembot Evaristus Nembot whose team beat th oponents by 2 goals to one.
