Michelle selected for Brazil

Michelle, player with Brazil, Copenhagen 2007 Homeless World Cup won the best female player, she also went on to win a place in the squad for Brazil's national women's team. She explains how it happened.

“It initiated during the Female Football Brazilian Cup. The Under-20 Female Brazilian National Team coach Kleyton Lima observed the matches. I played for team America F.C., from Rio, which achieved the 5th place. In that tournament I scored 15 goals.

The first selection was in the beginning of January. I was in a friend’s house and found out the news in the Internet. America’s directors called me as well.

I got very happy, as first reaction – I’d wanted to talk to my mom and all my family; I was really happy! But after that…can you believe that I got sad??? That’s because I realized that I would stay away my family for a long time; I’d miss them a lot. But it’s ok: that’s the price I have to pay for my dreams.

On the 27/01/2008 the final 20 players were selected (8 players were eliminated) to play the South America Cup, that will occur in Bagé and Porto Alegre. Brazil played in the first stage against Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile and Uruguay. The tournament occured between 07/03/08 and 23/03/08.

A very special moment was when I arrived in the Granja Comary (Note: the place where the professional players stay). I could never imagine that I would stay there in my whole life.

Today I’m in the same room where my idol usually stays (Robinho). This doesn’t have a price…I’ll not loose this opportunity!!!”

Will Michelle be part of the group that will play the Under-20 Female World Cup in December/2008?
