After a successfull edition in their own backyard last year, Team Australia, nicknamed the Street Socceroos, are training for next Homeless World Cup with a great sense of purpose and excitement. There are currently Street Soccer Programs running in: Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Geelong with The Big Issue in Australia developing programs in thirty locations nationwide in the next three years. After a strong crowd support at the Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup, they now cross the oceans to Italy for the 5th participation. Final Position: Milan 2009 - 43rd; Melbourne 2008 - 22th; Copenhagen 2007 - 43rd; Cape Town 2006 - 43rd; Edinburgh 2005 - 7th (Best Newcomer);

Street Socceroos Farewelled

Excited farewells kicked off in Adelaide on Wednesday at the final Street Soccer Program training session before Toni, Hamid, Will and Dave left for Melbourne. Farewelling the players, Emma Wirkus from the Australian Matildas and Adelaide United Women’s Soccer Team along with Airton Andrioli and Richie Alagich from Football Federation South Australia (FFSA) praised the passion and commitment of the players who are using sport to overcome challenges in their lives.
