BOCA HONOUR TEAM ARGENTINA
Posted by Argentina - 05.05.2011
Boca Juniors gave the Argentina Homeless World Cup squad a heroes' welcome ahead of their most recent game at the iconic 'La Bombonera' stadium.
The men and women who represented Argentina at the Rio 2010 Homeless World Cup were given a standing ovation as they were paraded before a 49,000 capacity crowd ahead of Boca's Primera Division clash against Huracan.
Argentina fielded two teams in the tournament with their all-female side finishing eighth in the women's tournament whilst the men's team won the Community Cup which they proudly presented to the crowd at 'La Bombonera'.
The Argentinian side is organised by HECHO CLUB SOCIAL, a social sports project started by streetpaper Hecho in Buenos Aires.
The team is comprised of vendors, homeless people, those suffering from drug and alcohol addiction, migrants and refugees.
For those players a dream was realised as they stepped out onto the pitch to enjoy the adulation of one of the most prominent football clubs in the world.
