The Big Issue Korea is a Homeless World Cup national partner and the official organiser of the Korean team that debuted at the Rio 2010 Homeless World Cup.
Last year’s Rio Korean team consisted of six members, and, of those those six, four have now found steady employment, two have moved into rental housing and one has restored his relationship with his family.
Since Rio, where Korea they won the ‘Best New Team’ award, Big Issue Korea have worked tirelessly to find and support the next group of players to represent their country at the Paris 2011 Homeless World.
Last month the first round of preliminaries was held with 48 homeless people participating hoping to make the team (See video above).
Of these participants, 15 athletes advanced and are currently meeting every Wednesday to train. On July 4th 2011, though another round of competition, among these the final 8 will be chosen to play for Korea in Paris.
