Zimbabwe v Canada

Zimbabwe (6) v Canada (3)

The sun made a welcome appearance here but for a while it was the only thing shining as both teams took their time to warm up in their quest for the HWC's Ombold trophy. Zimbabwe opened their account with a lovely strike with the  outside of the right boot. Canada replied in kind from distance with a precision finish into the far corner.

Then Zimbabwe showed they were well and truly warm with a rush of sweet finishing that propelled them to a 6-1 lead at half time. A telephone number scoreline looked on the cards for the boys from Africa. However, the Canadians drew on a generous resource provided at this tournament in the form of a reserve goalkeeper from Denmark.

Single handedly he repelled numerous attacks from the Zimbabweans in a heroic performance. Their frustration manifested itself in disjointed play and fancy flicks that didn't quite come off. The Canadians, inspired by the man between the posts, belted in two.  A wedding was taking place on the Town hall steps behind the Zim goal and this occasion Canada finished as bridesmaids as Zimbabwe went through to the semi-final of their section..
