Volunteer Roles: Milan 2009 Homeless World Cup


APRIL-AUGUST 2009

PROMOTERS

Committment is required for Milan 2009 Homeless World Cup main events (live concerts, football games, atc); based at Milan 2009 Homeless World Cup office and around the city of Milan:

  • Leafleting
  • Small events organisation and management
  • Infopoints presence
  • Web designers and web writers


1-15 SEPTEMBER 2009

TEAM GUIDES

This is the main and most delicate role.  National team guides pick up the team from the airport and accompany them throughout the tournament assisting them around the city and with their daily activities.  

  • Two 6 hours shifts from 8.30 to 14.30 and from 14.30 to 20.30
  • English language and/or other language spoken by assigned team is required.
  • Availability from 1 to 15 september, to facilitate teams arrival and departures.


Arrivals and departures: availibality on late night or early morning could be required depending on flights schedule; location wil be on 3 airports Linate, Malpensa, Orio al Serio; first meeting in airport, luggage and transport assistance, players and managers registration, guidance to accomodation, check-in and check-out assistance, daily team schedule management; venue area assistance to the teams; transportation; teams guidance “accomodation to pitch”, and in general through the city; guide in leisure tour.

ACCOMODATION

  • Volunteers are based in the accomodation buildings
  • Shifts in this section are different; availability is required in precise timings during the day, which will be comunicated close to the event


Registration Officers

Facilitate and oversee team registration at the Players Village. Responsibilities include providing a warm welcome, issuing and filing of registration forms, distribution of information kits, snack packs and uniforms to teams, photographing teams, printing and issuing accreditation passes and handling basic accreditation enquiries; check-out. Computer skills essential.

Catering Officers

Oversee team meals in the Players Village. Key responsibilities include: Providing a warm welcome and great atmosphere for the the players, prepare and serve meals for teams, team guides and any volunteers.

Room Services

Oversee team management of rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and common areas, providing cleaning service and laundry service.

COMPETITION VENUE

  • Volunteers are based at Sempione Park.
  • Two 6 hours shifts, from 8.30 to 14.30 and from 14.30 to 20.30.


Accreditation

Front desk for any temporary pass management; invitation lists management; pass release. Must be computer literate.

Information service

Representation at infopoints during the event; flyers and programs distribution; general inquiries. Volunteers will be based inside or outside the park.

Resctricted areas checkpoints

Access control at main points at the Competition Venue, to ensure security is maintained. (media center, players lounge area, vip area, etc.)

Stewards

Will be available inside the pitch areas, assisting spectators in general inquiries.

Logistic services

Storage and flow of materials in the venue area (gadgets, food, teams wearings, etc)

Free time

Volunteers will support the Team Guides during teams presence in the Venue area while not playing (“meet the players” programme; training area; etc.).

Catering Officers

Oversee team meals in the Venue. Key responsibilities include;

  • Supplies storage, according to logistic services;
  • Shifts schedulation; team meals will be divided in groups and shifts depending on their daily programme;
  • Meals service (cooking and distribution). Volunteers will prepare and serve meals for teams, team guides and other volunteers located in the area.


SPORT SERVICES

  • Based directly at the pitch side
  • Two 6 hours shifts, from 8.30 to 14.30 and from 14.30 to 20.30.


Referees

Responsible for officiating games and enforcing rules of play as outlined by the Homeless World Cup. Experience and qualifications equired. A training day about street soccer rules will be provided.

Officers

Assist referees in liasion with teams. A training day about street soccer rules will be provided.

Team Coordinators

Manages the bench supplies , coordination and booking system for the reserve team, oversee team changes on the bench between games.

Scorers

Responsible for the distribution of results and stats to various venue spaces and key personnel as required by the Venue Manager. Confirmation of results to the Online Match Reporters located at the pitch for entry into the live results system. This role needs to be performed quickly therefore requires a good level of fitness and mobility.

TSR Assistant (Time, Scoring, Results)

Responsible for the accurate input of match data into the web-based results system at the pitch.

Pitch managers

Manage all the materials required e.g. balls and ensure a safe environment at the pitch at all times.

Prizes

Will support in prize ceremonies management and activities.

MEDICAL SERVICES

Masseuses

Provides injury and remedial massage services to the players at the Competition Venue as required.

Physiotherapists

Provides physiotherapy services for the players at the Competition Venue as required.

MEDIA SERVICES

Media Assistants

Assists with the management of all media services and spaces at the venue.  Key responsibilities include overseeing media access to teams, staffing of the media centre, updating media information and handling media enquires, assisting the media at the pitch side.

Photo Manager

Coordinates photographer services at the venue.  Key responsibilities include managing photographer access to teams, overseeing photographers at the pitches.

Press Conference Assistant

Plan and deliver a schedule of Press Conferences throughout the competition. Key responsibilities include the set-up of the Press Conference Area, technology and signage, the coordination of teams and the distribution of schedule to media.

Website Content

Responsible for the input and updating of website content including, tournament information, images and media releases onto the ‘live’ component of the event website. Superior computer skills and web content management experience essential.

Online Match Reporters

Observe play and upload live reports onto the event website. Good Italian and English language required.

Online Journalists

Coordinate and conduct interviews, plan and write articles; deliver flip video interviews and upload to the website. Journalist skills and web content management skills prefered.

Video / Photo Coordinators

Collect all photography from the official photographers, provide any necessary resizing and touch-ups before uploading to the website. Superior computer skills and web content management experience essential.

Social Networking + Bloggers

Look after the Homeless World Cup Social Networking sites during the tournament to blast all the regular information to fans and engage a new fan base during the key tournament period. Blog key sites about the tournament news.  Social Networking and blogging experience essential.

Technical support

Volunteers present in the media center to provide any trouble shooting and assistance with laptops, printers, wires, etc.
