USA (4) v (9) Argentina
By Andrea FoxARGENTINA has defeated the USA 9-4 in an aggressive and exciting match played on the Yarra Pitch.
A dominant start allowed Argentina to play keepings off in the second half, keeping the USA at bay.
A purple patch by Argentinean Masloski resulted in two goals in 10 seconds, with a huge strike from midfield was followed some quick work which capitalised on a stray pass from the USA goalie, Grandberry.
The USA opened its scoring with a superb strike by Gonzalez from the left-hand corner finding the top right side of the net.
But Argentina pulled away with five goals in a row to take a formidable lead.
Marchello scored two goals in a row, one a clean running strike and the other coming from a penalty.
USA goalie Grandberry conceded a second penalty which Portillo calmly slotted.
But just when it looked like Argentina had the game in the bag, the USA scored three goals within 90 seconds to remain in the game.
A top of the circle ripper from Cruz wizzed past the Argentinian goalie and made the score a respectable 7-4.
The second half remained scoreless for five minutes, with both sides playing tight, aggressive, defensive soccer.
Argentina consistently tried to maintain possession, while the USA continued to strike at goal without their efforts registering on the scoreboard.
With only 90 seconds remaining, Argentina's Portillo broke the scoring drought with a replica of Cruz's strike in the first half.
Then Herrera worked to get the USA goalie off balance and calmly slotted the final goal.
