The Final
The Final
Russia (1) v Kazakhstan (0)
The Russians were about twice the size of the Kazakhstan team, well they were twice the size of anyone!
The stadium
was packed and the mainly South African crowd were louder than ever. I was in
the crowd with English management team, some kids that had been following the
English Team around and some kids and their worker from a street children project
called My Life.
All the
flags from all the countries were waving around apart from the St George’s Cross so I went and got it and gave
it to one of the kids (Malcom) and he stood and waved it around and did a great job!
The dancing
that was going on was incredible and a joy to watch.
Then the
final got under way and the Russians dominated straight from the first whistle,
although Kazakhstan didn’t let them have an easy ride,
in the first half they got a goal disallowed, and to be honest I wasn't sure why I
couldn't see anything wrong with it myself.
Russia are a strong side and and the disallowed goal was a wake up call. After the second half started Russia didn’t allow Kazakhstan any of the ball and with a brilliantly worked team move and a cracking volley by the Russian number 2 they went one nil up.
Russia carried on attacking and could have
had a few more goals but Kazakhstan battled bravely and held their own.
The final
whistle blew and the Russians were ecstatic, Kazakhstan were obviously disappointed
but had done so well to get through to the final, especially as this was the first time they had entered a team into the tournament.
It was a great day and a well deserved win for Russia
