Enthusiasm was the name of the game in this match, which started with Australia scoring three times in less than two minutes. The Australian team, which calls itself the "socceroos", was cheered by a colorful and passionate crowd, but its lead was not to last long.

Sweden recovered quickly and by the end of the first half, it had caught up and scored one goal over the socceroos. In the second part of the match the Scandinavians embarked on a determinate campaign to score, which resulted in six more successful attempts.

Facing a an increasingly confident and coordinated Sweden, the socceroos failed to exploit all the opportunities to score which came their ways, but still managed two more goals.
