The Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup will held be at Federation Square and Birrarung Marr

1-7 December.

The Homeless World Cup is FREE to come and watch. No need to book tickets, no need to plan ahead - just come!

The matches will be played from lunchtime until early evening. This website will give full details of the day's matches, but drop in and see whoever is playing. Over 400 matches, 56 international teams, each match lasts 15 minutes; in a short space of time you'll see teams from all over the world unleashing their passion and skills.

Having said that, there will be no shortage of skill on display; some players go on to professional football leagues, having found the necessary confidence and self-esteem by training with and being part of street soccer programs.

The Competition Venue

The Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup will be played on three pitches. A grandstand stadium in Federation square; Fed Square Stadium, and two pitches in Birrarung Marr; the Yarra Pitch and the Melbourne Pitch. 

Spectator services include:

  • Information booths -  located Federation Square and Birrarung Marr.

  • Merchandise - official Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup merchandise  available at the NIKE booth in Federation Square.

  • Public Catering - Rotary BBQ, shakes and donuts, coffee, ice Creams, Schweppes drinks and baked potatoes at Birrarung Marr.

  • Programs - packed with information about the Homeless World Cup and all the teams for just $2 from program sellers at both venues.

  • Accessibility support - Travellers Aid will provide fully qualified and personal care staff to assist event attendees with disabilities. This service will be free of charge. The Cultural Festival

Federation Square and Birrarung Marr are siutuated opposite Flinders Street Station and are well connected by public transport.

(Please note - seating room at Fed Square Stadium is 800. Once the stadium is full spectator services staff will direct a queue and encourage people to either spill out into the square and watch the matches on the superscreen or wander down to watch matches on the pitches in Birrarung Marr.  There is no reserve seating in Fed Square stadium, and when full, once you leave your seat you go to the end of the queue!)
