Serbia v France

Serbia (5) v France (2)

France had Eric Cantona on the sidelines to inspire them yesterday and could've used some of his encouragement as they faced a clinical Serbia side. There was a goal a minute for the first 3 minutes putting Serbia 3-0 up, as they displayed good patient passing that the French defence found hard to disrupt. After the third goal Serbia seemed reluctant to shoot, staying safe so as not to risk losing the lead they had built up. The French number 4 Patrick Mebu looked the most likely to score for France, and he did on 5 minutes to make it 3-1. This was cancelled out only 30 seconds later and the score was 4-1 going in to half time.

15 seconds into the second half Serbia extended their lead to 4 goals, after which it became a very stop start affair with the referee awarding free kick after free kick. It was Serbia who continued to threaten however, with Mebu spearheading France's response but unable to put his shots away until just after 5 minutes as he tucked away a beautifully taken shot into the bottom left hand corner. The French keeper was inspiring to stop Serbia extending their lead before full time. Final score Serbia 5, France 2.
