Scotland (10) v (7) Ghana

Scotland (10) v (7) Ghana

By Sebastian James

SCOTLAND has won its first secondary group stage match 10-7, after surviving a second-half comeback from Ghana.

Starting the match the stronger of the two teams, Scotland scored the first two goals. Both came thanks to Alec Wade. For the first, after a controlling possession Wade found time at the back post to slot the ball past the Ghanian goalkeeper.

Ghana seemed incapable of shutting down the Scots quick-passing style of play early on and they were made to pay, with Scotland scoring five goals to two.

The second half started much the same as the first, with two quick goals by the Scots blowing the lead out to five goals.

The hot Melbourne sun took its toll on the Scottish players, helping Ghana slowly claw its way back into the match.

Prince Boadu continued his great form for the tournament scoring the match's final three goals. The second last of his five goals for the match came thanks to a quick break from defence, allowing Boadu to calmly slot home from the back post.

The win puts Scotland second on the Group B table with Nigeria above them on a slightly better goal difference.
