Romania and Rwanda faced off today in a fast and furious contest of skills which saw Romania coming away victorious 11-7 after a lengthy struggle.
In fine form despite playing shortly beforehand, Romania chalked up their first goal of the match after 30 seconds.
Romania’s star forward Pavel Calancea put the second goal in the left corner of the net, and whacked through another shortly after to bring the score to 3-0.
The standout player of the match, Calancea took out his hat-trick within the first three minutes of play.
But why stop at three when you can get four – Calancea slammed through his next goal seconds later to give Romania a comfortable 5-0 lead.
Rwanda was putting in a great effort in defence but the Romanian’s were too slippery and snuck past with another shot to make it 6-0.
A fast break from speedy Romanian Radu Muntean ensured their next goal, and the first half of the match finished with Calancea netting his fifth goal to make it 8-0.
After the break, Rwanda came back like a new team – they got it together and went at the Romanians like a hungry child at a biscuit tin, netting their first goal in 30 seconds.
The goals came thick and fast from both sides, bringing the score to 9-3 within seconds.
Rwanda took a powerful shot at goal which flew past the Romanian keeper and brought the score to 9-4.
Rwandan forwards Ally Uwimana and Hussein Ntakirutimana redefined astounding in the final minutes of the match, taking it in turns to slam the ball into the exact same spot in the right corner of the net.
But despite their impressive comeback, it was not enough to get past the strong Romanian side, and the final whistle blew with the scoreboard on 11-7.
