Russia v Kazakhstan
Russia (4) v Kazakhstan (4) wins on penalties
Russia and Kazakhstan faced each other once more a year after battling for the Homeless World Cup 2006, but this time it was the Asian team to gain the upper hand winning a place in the semifinals of the Copenhagen Trophy.
The two teams could count on good goalkeepers and competent defense, but the parallels end here. Russia was opportunistic and quick, taking every opportunity to win. Kazakhstan seemed more in control from an emotional point of view though, as its players remained focussed. But as far as thirst for victory went the two teams were equal. It was an evenly played game which ended up in deadlock more than once. By the end of the second quarter neither had managed to outdo the other, remaining stuck on 4:4. it was time for penalties to break the deadlock.
The evenness of the game continued during penalties: when one team scored so did the other and vice-versa. it went on until the ninth attempt, when Russia failed to score while its Asia arch-rival bagged the victory with an elegant and well-planned strike.
Kazakhstan will face Ukraine next today.
