RUSSIA proved themselves deserving of their second position in Group C after beating Austria 15-1 at Melbourne Pitch.
Russia is now second only to Afghanistan in Group C, while Austria, in fifth place, is still looking for its second win.
Khachiyan of Russia scored the first goal, with short chip shot that found the top corner of the net. He followed quickly with another goal after connecting with a rebound.
Russia's Derevyankin, the player who famously wears the number of James Bond, 007, finished off a fine display of Russian passing plays to bring the scores to 3-0.
007 continued to shine with another quick goal.
Austria's keeper, Hackl, was working up a sweat as he bravely fought off Russian attacks. The Russian offence was simply too persistent, however, and managed another seven goals before half-time.
An early penalty for Austria gave the team a much deserved consolation goal.
Khachiyan was not deterred by Austria's new found enthusiasm and scored Russia's first goal of the second half.
Russia continued to dominate the scoreboard but the prolific scoring rate that they set in the first half was significantly hampered by a now organised Austrian defence.
Hackl was under enormous pressure but displayed a steely resolve that enabled him to save more shots than he let through.
Russia peppered their opponent's goal in the closing minutes to bring the final score to 15-1.
