Portugal v Kenya

Portugal (1) v Kenya (3)

These two skillful sides gave the crowd an entertaining start to a crucial day for teams in the top two groups as they battle for position in tomorrow and Saturday's final rounds. Kenya's patient build up play and superb goalkeeper kept it tight in the first half as Portugal sought to play on the break. Fine use of the wall by the African's beguiling No.10 set up team mate J Kuria to slot home the first, but then a rare mistake by the keeper set up an equaliser for the boys in red; he soon made amends though with a handful of wonderful saves - one from a penalty - to keep it all-square at the break.

The heroics proved crucial as the Kenyans showed their defensive pedigree in the second half to see off a Portuguese side desperate for a win after mixed fortunes yesterday. Unintimidated by some acrobatic and entertaining substitutions from the Iberians, the white-shirts played a patient passing game to frustrate their opponents and it was left to headband wearing defender Mwangi to slot home two cool finishes to seal the tie.
