Poland (7) v (1) Sweden
Poland v Sweden
Poland made it three wins from three matches after a comfortable 7-1 victory over Sweden at Federation Square. The Polish cheer squad was again out in force, singing and dancing as their team took control of the match from the early stages.
As in their earlier match against England, Poland was intent on playing the game on its terms. They maintained possession for much of the first half, creating a wealth of opportunities.
Michal Miziaz scored the first for the Poles after just 90 seconds, with Marcin Zakowski and Tomasz Rudyk adding to the score sheet soon after as Poland stretched its lead to 3-0.
However, with just seconds left in the half, Jeff Tossberg scored Sweden’s first goal from a rare opportunity, sending the crowd into an absolute frenzy.
The half time break saw a packed crowd vocalising its support for the respective teams and the scene was set for an intriguing second half.
But Poland shut out any chance of a fairytale story soon after play resumed, thanks largely to Rudyk who scored three consecutive goals, taking his match tally to four. Artur Kowalczyk chipped in with one as well as Poland danced away to a dominant win.
