Poland v Liberia
Poland (3) v Liberia (2)
Tomasz Figlarz. Remember the name, for he is the unbeatable human octopus who almost single-handedly gave Poland the win here. It was only deep into the second half that Liberia's impressive No.6 Suahkollie Andrews finally breached the defences and in the meantime Poland's ability to convert rare chances had given them a lead they would never relinquish.Figlarz kept out a string of Liberian efforts during the first half, including one double save which brought to mind another Danish crowd favourite - Peter Schmeicel. And while he performed the heroics, his shaven-headed team mates drove home the goals that frustrated their African opponents. That frustration was no more evident than when Liberia's female striker first clattered into the bulk Polish No.4 before hurling the even bulkier No.11 to the ground, much to the crowd's delight.
Liberia eventually bagged a couple of goals, but the Poles kept them at arms reach - and what extraordinary arms. Figlarz is surely in contention for keeper of the tournament.
