ZAMBIA'S powerful attack proved too strong for Paraguay at the Yarra Pitch today, winning its Women's Homeless World Cup match 6-1.
The tone was set early with Zambia shooting for goal in the opening seconds. The shot skewed wide and a second shot shortly afterwards was saved only by a quick reaction from the Paraguayan keeper who caught the ball with her knees.
Edinasha Mambwe opened the scoring for Zambia in the third minute and almost nailed a second when she hit the crossbar two minutes later.
Merinda Namafe put Zambia two up in the fifth minute when she found herself one-on-one with the keeper and scored.
Zambia's Ireen C Mpundu and Jessica Chabota scored two goals in quick succession to give Zambia a 4-0 lead at the end of the first half.
Paraguay regrouped and defended hard in the second half to slow Zambia's scoring, with the Paraguayan keeper pulling off some stellar saves.
Ireen C Mpundu slotted the ball in to score Zambia's fifth goal in the 11th minute.
Paraguay fought back hard and only a diving save from the Zambian keeper kept them scoreless.
Carol Kanyemba put Zambia 6-0 up in the 12th, but Paraguay's attacking efforts paid off with a powerfully delivered goal from Maria Frasqueri Bogado putting them on the board.
