THE FINAL Group D qualifying spot was up for grabs in this crucial closing match on the Yarra Pitch, and Norway was just too classy for their Indian opponents, taking the game 7-0.
The Norwegian pair of Trond Otto Langenland and captain Trond Laland spent much of the opening few minutes attempting to set up goals but were denied by the sharp Indian keeper.
A penalty in the third minute gifted the Norwegians their first through Ivan Tobiassen, closely followed by a captain's goal which took it out to 2-0.
It was clear the Norwegians were trying to monster their smaller Indian opponents, but the sky blues would have none of it, using their pace to create havoc up front, but unable to get on the scoreboard.
The Norwegians rotated their troops heavily, keeping themselves fresh and seemingly confusing the Indians in the process.
A third goal just before half time to Einar Woldseth had the Europeans in a commanding position and left the Indians with a lot of work to do in the next seven minutes.
The Indian goalkeeper assumed the leadership role for his side and shouted instructions from the back to structure his men.
But a huge power strike from the half way line by Langanland put the game all but beyond the Indians.
The forward duo for India refused to give in and remained a handful for keeper Helge Sjolyst late into the second half, but silky footwork and superior skills earned two more to Woldseth and Arild Haland in the dying stages.
Showing their sportsmanship and good humour, the Indians put on some theatrics for the crowd at the end, knowing the game was beyond them.
It was a brilliant reminder of the true meaning and spirit of the Homeless World Cup and the demonstration was appreciated by all.
