New Zealand (6) v (3) Cambodia

New Zealand (6) v (3) Cambodia

By Tom Lyons

New Zealand recorded their first win of the second stage today, defeating Cambodia 6-3.

John Love continued his good form, slotting the first goal within seconds and scoring his second after two minutes.

Holding possession well and making the Cambodian defence work hard, New Zealand was content to hold on to their two goal advantage.

Cambodia’s first goal came courtesy of a penalty. Yannte judged the shot like a pro – posting the ball in the top corner.  New Zealand received a penalty just before half time, but was unable to add to their tally.

New Zealand started the second half in a flurry with Ivan Onek putting the lead out to two goals.  Cambodia replied immediately, sneaking one past the Kiwi goalkeeper to make it 4-2.

Impressive team work and deft skills from Yannte and Nhanh put Cambodia back into the contest.  But New Zealand remained focused, with John Love creating problems for the opposition.

Love was unable to consolidate the Kiwi lead and Cambodia scored again with a minute left in the match.

Last minute desperation from the Kiwis resulted in another goal to Onek, to put the game beyond doubt.

Johnny Love topped off his good work all day with his third on the final whistle to seal their 6-3 victory.
