My Game
My Game
Foyer match reporter, Kate Wilson, relishes her chance to play in Cape TownIt was the last day of the Homeless World Cup and Anna, a girl from the Ugandan team, had set up a girls only match involving all the female players from the Homeless World Cup, and me!
The reason
I got a chance is because the England management team told them I
wanted to play and I was good.
Strangely I
was put onto the same side as Lindsey Cooper who lives in a Scottish Foyer and,
considering I live in Torbay Foyer, you couldn’t get any two British
foyers further away form each other.
It was one
of the highlights of the whole tournament for me. I didn’t think I would get game.
Everyone else on our team couldn’t speak a word of English. The crowd were
going nuts and all the English and all the Scottish lads were there cheering us
on (the Irish tried but there taxi was 2 hours late.)
It was a
fantastic atmosphere and I remember at the start of the game I did a little
trick and turned the girl that was marking me and I heard a guy from the crowd
shout "that white girl got skill" which made me chuckle.
I would
love to see more girls getting into the Homeless World Cup and I have decided
to make it a mission of mine to get a girls tournament going at thesame time. I am not sure if it is possible but I am going to try my best.
In the end
we won 5-1 and I scored a goal I was quite disappointed as I didn’t score more
but I hadn’t played a game for about 3 months so I thought I did ok. Lindsey was great too, (she even won female player of the tournament for her
part in Scotland’s matches).
I think between us we set a great standard for future British girls.
