A variety of volunteer roles will be available across every aspect of the Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup. Every effort will be made to assign you to a role that matches your interests and skill base.

Team Arrivals and Departures

•    These roles are based at Team Village and Airport;
•    Indicative shift time of 8 hours;
•    Shift start and finish times will be based around team arrival and departure schedule;
•    Late nights and early mornings may be required;
•    Team arrivals anticipated to occur during 28 November – 30 November;
•    Team departures anticipated to occur during 7 December – 9 December;
 

Arrival & Departures Assistant

Facilitate the smooth arrival and departure of teams and assist with airport services within the terminal including meet and greet, luggage collection and the answering of general inquiries. This role is based at Airport and reports to the Airport Manager.

Transport Marshal – Arrivals and Departures, Airport

Facilitate team transport arrangements between Airport and the Village. Responsibilities include directing teams from the terminal to the bus load zones, supervising the load and unload of buses, recording head counts and ensuring player safety at the load zones.  Reports to Airport Manager.

Transport Marshal – Arrivals and Departures, Village

Facilitate team arrivals at the Village. Responsibilities include supervising the unload of buses, ensuring player safety at the load zones, recording headcounts and bus arrival patterns and liaising with bus drivers. Reports to Village Manager.

Registration Officer – Teams

Facilitate and oversee team registration process at the Village.  Responsibilities include issuing and filing of registration forms, distribution of information kits, snack packs and uniforms to teams and assisting with the general welcome.  This role is based at Village and reports to Village Manager.

Registration Officer (Accreditation) – Teams

Facilitate and oversee team registration process at the Village.  Responsibilities include photographing teams, printing and issuing accreditation passes and handling basic accreditation inquiries.  Computer skills essential. This role is based at Village and reports to Village Manager.

Competition Period


•    These roles are based at the Competition Venue and the Village;
•    Indicative shift time of 8 hours
•    Indicative shift times are: 07:30 – 15:30 and 15:00 – 23:00;


Event Services


Access Monitors

Enforce accreditation system at key access points at Competition Venue and Village to ensure team and venue security is maintained.  Seat and access board provided.

Accreditation Manager

Responsible for the management of the Venue Accreditation Desk.  Key responsibilities include the coordination of pass collection prior to the event, the distribution of temporary passes for teams, media, workforce and VIPs as required during the competition and the handling of any accreditation related inquiries. This role is based at the Competition Venue and reports to the Venue Manager. 

Accreditation Assistant

Staff the Accreditation Desk and assist with the distribution of accreditation passes as required and assist with accreditation related inquiries for teams, media, workforce and VIPs.  This role is based at the Competition Venue and reports to the Accreditation Manager. 

Accommodation Assistant

Assist Village Manager with overall management of the accommodation and Village facilities.  Excellent communication and organisational skills required.  Key responsibilities include incident reporting, managing a team of volunteers and issue resolution.

Accommodation Coordinator

Oversee all activities at the Village and act as liaison with accommodation representative. Key responsibilities include supervising team breakfasts and handling incidents and inquiries in the first instance. May be required to live-in at the team accommodation.  Reports to the Village Manager. 

Catering Assistant – Venue

Oversee delivery, storage and distribution of meal packs at Competition Venue for teams and workforce.  Key responsibilities include ensuring a controlled distribution, enforcing voucher system, monitoring stock control and logging feedback.  May be required to deal with any catering issues in the first instance, referring to management as required. Reports to Venue Manager.

Catering Assistant – Village

Oversee team dinner in the Dining Hall at the Village. Key responsibilities include the monitoring of team interaction, maintaining an efficient queuing system, recording feedback and managing the liaison with in-house caterers.  Reports to Village Manager.

Competition Assistants

Assist with all aspects of the tournament to ensure play is proceeding as scheduled and within competition guidelines.  Key responsibilities include overseeing field of play activity, volunteer management and supporting the Competition Venue Manager as required.

Information Booth (Spectators) Manager – Venue

Manage Spectator Information Booth at the Venue.  This role involves managing volunteers, stock control and assisting with public inquiries. Must be computer and internet literate. Reports to Venue Manager.

Information Booth Assistant – Venue

Man information booth, assist with public inquiries and monitor collateral stock. Must be computer and internet literate. Reports to Information Booth Manager.

Information Desk (Players) Assistant – Venue

Man information Desk located within the Player’s Lounge.  Key responsibilities include assisting with team inquiries and coordinating information resources. Must be computer and internet literate. Reports to Players Lounge Manager.

Information Desk (Players) Assistant - Village

Man information Desk located within the Player’s Lounge.  Key responsibilities include assisting with team inquiries and coordinating information resources. Must be computer and internet literate. Reports to Players Lounge Manager.

Interpreter – as required by final list of teams

Provides interpretive services to teams as required.  Priority for medical, media and management requirements.  On-call service.

Operations Centre Assistant

Assists the Venue Manager with the general running of the Venue Operations Centre located at the Venue.  Key responsibilities include general administrative tasks, handling phone and radio communications, managing equipment distribution and supporting the Venue manager as required.  Must be computer and internet literate.

Players Lounge Manager – Venue

Manages the day-to-day operation of the Players Lounge at the Venue including leisure facilities, Player Information Desk, coffee and tea facilities and player security.  Must be computer and internet literate. Reports to Venue Manager and supported by Information Assistant.

Players Lounge Manager – Village

Manages the day-to-day operation of the Players Lounge at the Village including leisure facilities, Player Information Desk, coffee and tea facilities and player security.  Must be computer and internet literate. Reports to Venue Manager and supported by Information Assistant.

Player Storage/Change Monitor

Manages the operation of the Player Storage and Change area at the Venue including access, security, implementing and maintaining an efficient storage system and assisting players with the fast turn-around required between matches.

Spectator Services Coordinator

Monitor and manage pedestrian traffic flow through the venue, assist patrons to various event locations and handle public inquiries.  Will be responsible for a team of Spectator Services Assistants and will report to the Venue Manager.  An active position requiring a good level of fitness and mobility.

Spectator Services Assistant

This role is in direct contact with the general public.  Responsibilities include assisting public to various venue spaces, answering general event inquiries, ensuring pedestrian traffic flow is kept smooth and that all venue access points remain clear.  This position will be under the supervision of the Spectator Services Coordinator and will be based at various points throughout the competition venue.  Volunteers will be required to stand for long periods of time. 

Sponsor/VIP Services Assistant

Responsible for coordinating Sponsor and VIP activities at the venue.  Key responsibilities include escorting VIPs to their specified seating area, ensuring they are prepared for medal presentations as required and assisting with their general inquiries.  This position involves contact with high profile visitors and therefore requires responsible and well-groomed individuals.

Team Liaison Officers (2 per team)

Individuals assigned to each team to assist with all aspects of the teams experience and involvement in the competition.  They will be required to stay with the team at all times and will be the key liaison point between teams and local organising committee.  It is a strong preference that the team liaison officer speaks the language of the team and has an understanding of their cultural background.  Key responsibilities include information dissemination, accompanying teams to meals, matches and event functions and facilitating arrivals and departures.

Training Venue Coordinator – Village

Manages training venue operations at the Village.  Key responsibilities include the management of a training session roster, pitch maintenance and player welfare.  Reports to Village Manager.

Training Venue Coordinator - Venue

Manages the operation of the training pitch at the Venue.  Key responsibilities include the management of a training session roster, pitch maintenance and player welfare.  Reports to Venue Manager.

Transport Marshal – Competition

Assists teams with transport arrangements between Venue and the Village.   Located at Venue and Village tram stops.  Responsibilities include supervising the load and unload of trams, monitoring impact of team travel on the public and public spaces, assisting team with directions as required and protecting player security.  Reports to Village/Venue Manager.


Competition Services


Referee

Responsible for officiating games and enforcing rules of play as outlined by the Homeless World Cup.  Experience required.

Reserve Team Coordinator

Manages the coordination and booking system for the reserve team as required during the competition.  Key responsibilities include logging advance and short-notice bookings, allocating reserve team members accordingly and managing player welfare.

Results Runners

Responsible for the distribution of results and tournament information to various venue spaces and key personnel as required by the Venue Manager.  This role needs to be performed quickly therefore requires a good level of fitness and mobility.  Reports to the Venue Competition Manager.

Scorers

Responsible for the tracking and recording of match scoring in accordance with official rules and the prompt communication of results to the TSR Assistant located at the pitch for entry into the results system.

Timekeepers

Required to track and log official match times in accordance with official rules and regulations.

TSR Assistant (Time, Scoring, Results)

Responsible for the accurate input of match data into the web-based results system at the pitch.


Medical Services


Masseuse

Provides injury and remedial massage services to teams within the medical and recovery areas. Reports to Medical Services Manager.

Medical – Physiotherapist

Provides physiotherapy services for teams at the venue within the medical and recovery areas.

Medical – Nurse

Provides initial medical consultation services for teams at the venue/village within the medical area.

Medical – GP

Provides initial medical consultation services for teams at the venue/village within the medical area.

Medical Duty Officer

Off-hours Duty Officer to live-in at team accommodation and refer any overnight medical concerns.  First Aid certificate required. 


Media Services


Media Manager – Photographers

Coordinates photographer services at the venue.  Key responsibilities include managing photographer access to teams, overseeing photographers at the pitches and facilitating information dissemination.  Reports to Media Operations Manager.

Media Assistants – Photographers

Assists with the management of all photographer services and spaces at the venue and oversees photographer access to teams. Reports to Media Manager – Photographers.

Media Assistants

Assists with the management of all media services and spaces at the venue.  Key responsibilities include overseeing media access to teams, staffing of the media centre, updating media information and handling media inquires. Reports to Media Manager.

Press Conference Manager

Manages the smooth operation of Press Conferences throughout the competition.  Key responsibilities include the set-up of the Press Conference area, technology and signage, the coordination of teams and the distribution of schedule to media.  Reports to Media Manager.

Press Conference Assistant

Supports the Press Conference Manager in the planning and delivery of a schedule of Press Conferences throughout the competition.  Key responsibilities include the set-up of the Press Conference Area, technology and signage, the coordination of teams and the distribution of schedule to media.  Reports to Press Conference Manager.


Website Content Coordinator

Responsible for the input and updating of match data, tournament information, images and media releases onto the ‘live’ component of the event website.  Superior computer skills and web content management experience essential.  Reports to Venue Competition Manager.

Online Match Reporter

Observe play and upload live reports onto the event website.

Online Journalist

Coordinate and conduct interviews, plan and write articles and coordinate upload of content to the website.

Photographic Coordinator – Website

Collect images from photographers and coordinate any necessary resizing and touch-ups before coordinating the upload of images onto the website.
