Malawi (10) v (4) Sweden
by Emily DayMalawi has defeated Sweden 10-4 in a beautiful display of skills at the Yarra Pitch today.
Both teams had keepers that were Aussie reserves - Malawi had Patrick while crowd favourite Vannie was keeping for Sweden.
Such was Vannies popularity that at one stage the crowd and even the commentator was chanting 'Vannie, Vannie!'
Malawi netted the first goal in the first min by player 13 which shot through Vannie's legs.
Sweden peppered the Malawi goal with nets but all fell wide or were deflected by Patrick.
Malawi no. 5 ran away with the ball and took the next goal to make it 2-0.
The same player followed up seconds later with another goal to make it 3-0.
Sweden finally entered the game with a goal from no 3 which confidently hit the top of the net.
But Malawi answered immediately to make it 4-1 and then 5-1 seconds later with a slow but assured strike.
Swedish no 8 showed his skills with a goal at the back of the net, but Malawi no 15 scraped one past Vannie's gloves to make it 6-2.
Sweden no3 passed it well to no 8 who snagged the next goal - 6-3.
the second half started with a Malawian goal in the left corner.
but a Swedish penalty shot from no 10 confidently answered to make it 7-4.
But Malawi could taste victory, slamming thorugh several more goals to bring the final result to a satisfying 10 -4
