LITHUANIA defeated Hong Kong in the quarter final of the City Cup on Yarra Pitch.
A measured performance from the Lithuanians had them take control of the play early, running out convincing 11-2 winners.
They were content to share the ball around until either Deivis Dauksa or Vytautas Skirmantas had space to take a shot. The first goal came after Dauksa’s precise cross through the keeper’s area, for Skirmantas to finish into an open goal.
Quick play from Hong Kong made them good on the counter-attack, but the Lithuanian defence played well, enabling them to get back and protect their goalkeeper.
Hong Kong’s Chun Fat Hui was finally able to score right before the half-time whistle. But with a first half hat-trick to Dauksa, it was 6-1 at the break.
Dauksa scored again immediately after half time and when great passing between him and Skirmantas made it 8-1, the Lithuanians enjoyed an insurmountable lead.
Hong Kong desperately tried to pull one back, however wayward shooting and good play from the Lithuanian keeper prevented their second until the final minute of the match.
At the other end of the pitch, the Lithuanians were happy to play possession football as they recorded a commanding nine-goal victory.
