BRAZIL defeated Lithuania 8-1 today in a remarkable display of skill and control that left the Lithuanian team frustrated.
Brazil started off with a bang, slamming in a strong goal after six seconds of play which the Lithuanians did not see coming.
After a minute of furious offence, Brazil's Carlos Magno Santos put through their second goal. Lithuania did their best to respond with two shots which both flew over the crossbar.
It wasn't long before the play was back in the Brazilian half, with Adeilton Bruno Melo da Silva slamming a low shot right into the back of the net.
Lithuania struggled to control the game, with shots raining high and Brazil hammering in a delicious shot from star forward Adeilton, who took careful aim, feinted and fired into the left corner of the net.
A free kick to Lithuania soon led to their first goal from Arturas Rasimavicius, but their elation was short-lived as Adeilton responded within seconds, bringing the score to 5-1.
Lithuania's attacking forays were constantly foiled by aggressive tackling from Denis Rodrigues Strutz, who was ferocious in defence for Brazil.
The whistle blew for half time with Lithuania yet to make their presence felt in this Brazil-dominated game.
Lithuania's goalkeeper had warmed up for the second half, deflecting the barrage of shots coming his way.
But Brazil pulled ahead again after a successful penalty shot slipped past the keeper and into the right corner of the net.
A substitution for Lithuania saw the agile Rasimavicius back on the field leading to more attacks on goal but none were able to elude the Brazilian defenders.
The Brazilians were almost teasing their opposition with their passes back and forth, until a shot at goal was deflected by Rasimavicius and the ball was last seen heading off toward the Yarra river.
Another penalty to Brazil saw the scoreboard creep up to 7-1, and a goal for new player Anderson de Franca Pierre came just before the final whistle.
